Roger Duane (RD) Juveland
September 05, 1935 - December 14, 2015

Surrounded by his loving family, U.S. Veteran Roger Duane (RD) Juveland lost his battle with cancer on Monday, December 14th, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Roger, a son of Melvin and Gladys (Martinson) Juveland, was born on September 5th, 1935, on the family homestead near Lake Mills, Iowa. Baptized at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, he attended country school and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1954. Then, he served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. On April 13th, 1957, Roger married Carol Dahl at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church, Bricelyn Minnesota, and they had three children, Tamera, Todd, and Kristin.

During Roger’s military service, he and Carol lived in Oklahoma and South Carolina as well as a year in Iceland. After they returned to the Midwest, Roger worked as a draftsman at Larson Industries in LeCenter, Minnesota, Kato Engineering in Mankato, Minnesota, and Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa.

A member of Salem Lutheran Church, Roger ushered, taught Sunday school, and served on the church council. In 1984, he and Carol took their dream trip to Norway where they spent time touring the country with relatives. He enjoyed painting, refinishing furniture, and woodworking as hobbies. He played a role in the refurbishing of the uptown businesses that are part of the Lake Mills Entertainment, Inc. Moreover, he spent many hours completing his family genealogy and compiling a book going back many generations. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Roger is survived and sadly missed by Carol, his wife of fifty eight years; his daughters, Tami (Mark) Alphs and Kristin, (Dean) Colby; his son, Todd (Misty) Juveland; his grandchildren: Chris and Lucia Alphs; Jessica, Joran, and Jordan Colby; and Johanna, Annika, and Bjorn Juveland; his great-grandson, Parker Hamersky; his brother, Earl Juveland; and his brother- and sister-in-law, Duane and Carol Dahl.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Melvin and Gladys Juveland; his parents-in-law, Corald and Alice Dahl; his brothers, Donovan and Ardel Juveland; his sisters-in-law, Edna and Lorraine Juveland; and his niece, Nancy Holtan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, December 18, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church, 401 S. Lake St. Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday evening, at Salem Lutheran Church and again one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery with the Lake Mills American Legion Post #235 conducting the military honors.
