John Dudley Weible
September 13, 1906 - January 19, 2001

John Dudley Weible, 94, formerly of Forest City, died on Friday, January 19, 2001, at the Charter House Health Center, Rochester, Minnesota.

Dudley was born on September 13, 1906, in Friend, Nebraska. His family, later, moved to Des Moines. After attending Grinnell College for two years, Dudley transferred to Drake University where he graduated in 1928. He, then, entered law school at the University of Iowa and graduated in 1931. In 1932, he moved to Forest City to practice law. On October 14, 1939, he married Mary Jane Gjellefald in Forest City.

As an attorney in Forest City, Dudley volunteered to service in the U. S. Navy in 1944. Stationed in Philadelphia at the Naval Aviation Supply Office, he served until 1946. In 1950, he served as the Iowa Commander of the American Legion.

Very active in the Iowa Association for Defense Lawyers, Dudley served on its Board of Directors and as its president. He provided legal counsel for the REA and RTA. For forty years, he, also, served as Winnebago County Attorney. Moreover, He practiced law in Forest City until he retired in 1975.

In 1988, Dudley moved to the Charter House in Rochester. He was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Mary Jane Gjellefald; three daughters, Susan Fuelling, of Jackson, Mississippi, Deborah (Jay) Mackie, of Ely, Minnesota, and Libby (Mark) Jensen, of Prior Lake, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Mayo Foundation or Zumbro Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at the Charter House Chapel, Rochester, Minnesota. A private burial will take place in Oakland [Oakwood] Cemetery, Forest City, Iowa.
