Ivah M. Johnson
October 14, 1933 - April 21, 2015Ivah M. Johnson, 81, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Ivah Marie Johnson, a daughter of Ben and Adeline (Goodman) Hull, was born on October 14, 1933, in Garner, Iowa. After graduating from Garner High School, she furthered her education at Mercy College of Nursing earning an RN degree. She married Howard Johnson in 1955, and to this union five children were born. Ivah worked at Mercy Hospital in Mason City for forty years. A loving, compassionate, and caring nurse, she treated her patients as though they were members of her own family.
Ivah enjoyed visiting with her friends, reading, and listening to music as well as playing cards, scrabble, and dominos. More than all else, however, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were truly the joy of her life. In addition, she had many friends and was loved by all lucky enough to know her. An active member of St. James Catholic Church in Forest City, she had a gift to make each person she met feel special.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jean Balough, of Mason City, Iowa, Shannon (John) Determan, of Hudson, Wisconsin, Virginia (John) Monson, of Forest City, Iowa, Michael Johnson, of Emmons, Minnesota, and Polly (Mike) Abrams, of Northwood, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Casey (Eric) Dusza, Sarah (Garrett) Caffee, Rachel (Matt) Determan, Megan (Nick) Monson, Andrew Balough, Abby (Casey) Groher, Jacob Balough, Jazmayne Coleman Monson, and Lauren Abrams; seven great grandchildren, Montana, Gavin, Dylan, Hadyn, Liam, Madeline, and soon to arrive Abigail; her sisters, Vivian McEldoon and Nellie (Bruce) Masten, of Mason City, Iowa; her sisters-in-law, Maxine Hull, also of Mason City, and Joann Hull, of Waterloo, Iowa; her special cousin, Georgetta Penard, of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews and their families as well as extended family members and so many dear friends.
She was greeted in heaven by her parents, Ben and Adeline Hull; her brothers, Perry and Ivan; her sisters, Greta and Iris, and her brother-in-law, Bob.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 N. Clark St. Forest City, Iowa. A rosary will be recited at 3:45 P.M., and a scriptural wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 24, 2015, at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City with Frs. Dennis Miller and Paul Lippstock as concelebrants. Interment will take place in St. James Cemetery in Forest City. Memorials may be directed to the Ivah Johnson memorial fund in care of the family.
