Rachel Ann Larson
(February 26, 1925 - February 9, 2015)

Rachel Ann (Tweeten) Larson, 89, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa, on Monday, February 09, 2015, from complications following a stroke.

Rachel Ann was born on February 26, 1925, at her grandparents’ (Abraham and Anna (Hermanson) Tweeten) farm house in rural Winnebago County, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, she graduated from Lake Mills High School and worked at a grocery store and drug store in Lake Mills.

On August 17, 1943, Rachel married Vincent L. Larson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Over the years, Rachel, Vince, and their six sons called several north Iowa communities “home:” Forest City, Garner, Northwood, and Lake Mills.

An excellent homemaker, Rachel loved her family. Luckily, she shared her private recipes for lefsa, wedding ring salad, and molasses sugar cookies with the rest of her family. She taught Sunday and Bible school, served as den mother for a cub scout pack in Garner, worked as the librarian for the City of Northwood, Iowa, for sixteen years, and she enjoyed twenty-nine years of camping experiences with Vince.

Rachel is survived by her loving husband of seventy-one years, Vincent, of Lake Mills, Iowa; her sons, David (Dennis Banks) Larson, of Cuernavaca, Mexico, Ronald (Jane) Larson, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Gary (Elaine) Larson, of Ames, Iowa, Steven (Terri) Larson, of Iowa City, Iowa, and James and John Larson, both of San Francisco, California; nine grandchildren: Matthew, Emily, Eric, Scott, Chad, Adam, Peter, Marcus, and Andrea; and five great-grandchildren: Samuel, William, Oscar, August, and Gunnar; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Hazel Tweeten; one brother and his wife, Arden and Jolaine Tweeten; and one grandson, Michael.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Mills, Iowa.

Blessed be your memory as a wife, mother, and grandparent. We will all miss you as you gave us so many memories to cherish!
