Ann Patterson
October 19, 1921 - January 17, 2015

Ann Patterson, 93, of Buffalo Center, died on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Algona Manor in Algona, Iowa.

Ann Mae (Winter) Patterson was born on October 19, 1921, to Jake and Mary (Betels) Winter in rural Buffalo Center, Iowa. After graduating from Buffalo Center High School in 1940, she moved to Des Moines. There, she worked at the Sears Department Store and at WHO Radio where she became acquainted with Ronald Reagan. Upon returning to Buffalo Center, she married the love of her life, Lyle, on July 18, 1947, at the Little Brown Church. They settled in Buffalo Center but later moved to the family farm southwest of town where they lived for almost fifty years before building a new home in town.

Although Ann, primarily, took on the role of housewife and mother while they lived on the farm, she also did a lot of the field work. Later, she worked at the Titonka Savings Bank and for the Titonka School system before they moved to Washington, Iowa, and then to Denison Iowa. After Lyle retired from teaching/counseling, they retired back to Buffalo Center.

Ann enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. For many years, she was an avid bowler. Musically talented, she played the piano and accordion and sang with her brothers. She loved to jump in the car with Lyle and travel, often not sure of their destination. She, also, liked watching or listening to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Cubs, and Bishop Garrigan’s Golden Bears. Ann’s greatest joy in life, however, was her family. She would, invariably, arrive first at every school play, musical event, or sporting event that her children or grandchildren participated in, thereby ensuring that she got the best seat in the house. During the past three years, she, especially, enjoyed her regular afternoon coffee with family and friends.

A member of the Buffalo Center United Methodist church, Ann, actively, participated in the United Methodist Women's club and the Bible Study group.

Ann is survived by her sons, Robert (Cindy), of Mason City, Ron (Marty), of Algona, and Randy (Craig), of Wesley Chapel, Florida; her grandchildren, Brandi Paulsen, Katie Stocking, and Travis, Jill, and Brian Patterson; and three great-grandchildren; her brother, Jake Winter, Jr.; her brother-in-law, Lloyd Gray; her sisters-in-law, Marian and Arlene Winter and Sayde Fisher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle, in 2002; one infant son, Ryan; and her siblings, Alvin, Bud, Dick, and Sharon.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at the Buffalo Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winter Funeral Home and also one hour before the services at the church.
