U.S. Veteran Ronald W. Okland, 74, of Leland, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Ronald W. Okland was born on April 18, 1940, in Northwood, Iowa, to John and Alice (Westendorf) Okland. After graduating from Northwood High School in 1958, he attended Bethany Lutheran College and later joined the United States Air Force in 1961 as an NCO. He was commissioned as an officer in 1971 and was later assigned to the USAF Office of Special Investigations. After retiring from the military, Ron served for ten years with U.S. Customs.

Ron married Carolyn Phillips, of Gooding, Idaho, on July 26, 1963. They, subsequently, traveled extensively throughout Northern Europe during his Air Force career, including visits to Norway, Holland, and Germany.

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, Ron is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kim Okland, of Huntly, Virginia; two grandchildren, John and Kelsey; four brothers, Donald (Pat) Okland, of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Robert (Juanita) Okland, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Virgil Okland, of Denver, Colorado, and Richard (Kim) Okland, of Norwalk, Iowa; three sisters, Marilyn (Ralph) Olsen, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Karen (Duane) Abrahams, of Northwood, Iowa, and Pat (Mike) Levinsen, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard; and two siblings, Michael and Linda.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 30, 2015, at the Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Leland, Iowa, with Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Military Honors will be conducted at the church by the Otto Chose Post #235 of Lake Mills. Burial will be at South Shell Rock Cemetery, rural Northwood, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Center Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Hospice of North Iowa.
