Henry V. Hanson, 84, of Forest City, died on Monday, October 20, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Henry was born on March 22, 1930, in Leland, Iowa, a son of Herbert and Lenora (Matthews) Hanson. He served in the United States Army for three years during the Korean War before his honorable discharge. On May 31, 1953, he married to Ruby Carlson in Anchorage, Alaska. Five children were born to this union.

A long time Forest City resident, Henry worked for Winnebago Industries for thirty years before he retired. A member of the Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church, he played an active role in several capacities. He enjoyed camping and fishing as well as spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Henry is survived by his wife, Ruby, of Forest City; his children, Donald (Verlene) Hanson, of Fertile, Daniel and Terry (Sheila) Hanson, of Forest City, and Dottie (Kenneth) Suby, of Leland; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Helen Baumann, of Lakota, Robert (Ilene) and Ellsworth (Kathy) Hanson, of Garner, and Loretta Young and Verna Mae Eggerth, also of Garner; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry Hanson, in 2002; his brother, Herbert Hanson; three brothers-in-law, Ray Young, Walter Eggerth, and Kenny Baumann; his granddaughter, Theresa Suby; his great-granddaughter, Bethany Hanson; and his nephew, Jay Hanson.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 24, 2014, at Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church, 546 West M. St., Forest City, with Rev. Wayne Halvorson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place between 5:00 and 7:00 P.M., Thursday, October 23, 2014, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Center Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery near Leland. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Henry Hanson memorial fund.
