Duane Elmer Reese, 80, of Forest City, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Duane E. Reese was born on February 11, 1934, in rural Madison Township, Hancock County, a son of Elmer and Emily (Cunningham) Reese. He attended rural schools and graduated from Forest City High School in 1951. On June 1, 1952, he married Verna Hansen at the Methodist Church in Forest City. To this union, three children were born, Karen, Donald, and Linda.

A member of the Hancock County Pork Producers, a Past-President of the Farmers Coop in Forest City, a Madison Township Trustee, a member of the Hancock County Ag Museum, Duane truly had a lifelong passion for farming. Indeed, he was still helping out on the farm right up until the time of his passing.

In addition, Duane had many other interests. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, and traveling. Indeed, he had twice driven to Alaska and had hiked nine of the 14,000 elevation peaks in Colorado. He also loved to fly. Having earned a pilot's license, he flew for many years. Moreover, he collected cast iron Griswolds and Red Wing crocks. On Sundays, he attended the United Methodist Church in Forest City with his wife Verna.

Duane enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. He faithfully attended his grandchildren's activities and sporting events and enjoyed having his morning coffee with a group of friends at Hardees. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Duane is survived by his wife, Verna Reese, of Forest City; his children, Karen Reese-Elliott, and her husband, Scott, of Clive, Iowa, Donald Reese, and wife, Susan, of Forest City, and Linda Kieffer, and her husband, Jim, of Spencer, Iowa; his grandchildren, Grace and Coner Elliott; Jessica Buckmeier, and her husband, Jamie; Allison Kirchhoff, and husband Jason; David Reese, and his wife, Alicia; Josh Kieffer; and Jackie Kieffer; his great-grandchildren, Brianna, Blaze, and Blakely Buckmeier; Sam, Matthew, and Abby Kirchhoff; and Sophia and Mckenna Reese; his sister, Glennice Trail, and her husband, Ronald; and his sister-in-law, Gail Reese; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Marvin Reese.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M., Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the Forest City United Methodist Church, with a time of remembrance at 6:00 P.M. The family requests casual attire and an informal meal will be served. A private family inurnment will be held in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Duane E. Reese memorial fund in care of the family.
