(October 24, 1933 - April 10, 2014)Marlene A. Storby, 80, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Marlene Ann (Torke) Storby was born on October 24, 1933, in Austin, Minnesota, a daughter of Lorenz and Theresa (Tobar) Torke. Baptized and confirmed at the Church of St. Augustine in Austin, Minnesota, she graduated from Austin High School in 1951.
Marlene met her future husband, Donald Storby, at the Turp Ballroom in Austin Minnesota. They married on April 23, 1955, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Austin. In time, they were blessed with six children, David, Kevin, Barb, Robert, Marilyn and Sarah.
Marlene worked at Larson Manufacturing for twenty-two years before retiring. Then, she worked part-time at the school, helping in the lunch room for ten years.
Every morning, Marlene would spend time at the Grand Café having coffee and visiting with friends. For many years, she enjoyed playing bridge. She also enjoyed doing her crafts, baking treats, and listening to big band music, especially Glenn Miller. She liked to relax at home with her cat, Tigger, while watching her favorite shows. Very active in her church and the American Legion Auxiliary, she always enjoyed the holidays and family birthdays.
She is survived by her children, Kevin (Berdiene) Storby, of Scarville, Sarah (Jason) Schumaker, of Glenville, Minnesota, and David Storby, Barb (Mark) Brackey, Robert (LeAnn) Storby, and Marilyn (Darrin Hansen) Storby, all of Lake Mills; twenty-three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother- and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Jacque Storby, of Waseca, Minnesota, and Beverly Storby, of Perry, Iowa; two special nieces, Cheryl Storby, of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Chris (Troy) Schue, of New Richland, Minnesota; and an aunt, Marion Zimmerman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Lorenz and Theresa Torke; her father- and mother-in-law, Elmer and Tena Storby; and a brother-in-law, Richard Storby.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Rev. Erich Hoeft of the Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation for Marlene will be on Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Center Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
