June 16, 1937 - April 27, 2014SCARVILLE - Donald M. Schroader, 79, of Scarville, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Donald Marlin Schroader, a son of Robert and Bevian (Randall) Schroader, was born on June 16, 1934, at Lake Mills. He grew up in the Vinje area and attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1952, he graduated from Kiester High School where he played football and baseball. During his senior year in high school, he was voted Homecoming King.
On July 11, 1954, Don married Beverly Johnson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kiester. They were blessed with two sons, Paul and Thomas. Employed as a truck driver his entire adult life, he worked for Winnebago Industries as an over-the-road driver from 1971 to 1998 when he retired. He, then, continued to drive for “Bago” for another fourteen years as a substitute and fill-in driver until his health began to fail. He logged well over three million miles. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors with his sons and grandsons. In the summer, he liked tractor rides with his 1650 Oliver.
A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Scarville as well as of Farming of Yesteryear, Don volunteered his time and work.
Don is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Scarville; his sons, Paul Schroader, of Britt, and Thomas (Jill) Schroader, of Forest City; his grandchildren, Melissa (Troy) Vaudt, of Buffalo Center, Dexter Schroader, of Mason City, Tricia Schroader, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Natalia Stimac, also of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and four great grandchildren, Sidney and Brett Walton and Ryann and Kinley Vaudt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bevian, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Kiester, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Scarville or Hospice of North Iowa.
