February 14, 1924 - May 2, 2014BRITT - Selma "Sally" Elizabeth Peterson, 90, of Britt, died on Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Sally Peterson, a daughter of Theodore and Frieda (Omundson) Haugland, was born on February 14, 1924, on a farm near Vinje. She attended school in Crystal Lake and then worked with her parents on their farm. They lived in various places in the Forest City area.
On February 14, 1944, she married Harold Marcellus Peterson in Forest City. Over the years, they lived in both Winnebago and Hancock Counties. While Harold served his country in the US Army, however, they lived in Templeton, Texas. Sally worked at the Nebraska Food plant in Britt and at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, retiring at age 62. She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, going to rummage sales, and camping. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City.
Sally is survived by her four children, Sandra (Jim) Brunsen, of Britt, Larry (Jeanie) Peterson, of Garner, Colleen (Rob) Curley, of Mason City, and Eugene Peterson, of Crystal Lake; her siblings, Marvin (Janice) Haugland, of Crystal Lake, Bobbie (Barb) Haugland, of Garner, Frances Hallet, of Crystal Lake, Barb (Jim) Larson, of Crystal Lake, nine grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1991; her parents; her grandson, Conner Brunsen; her brother, Frank Haugland, her sister, Marie Iverson; and her brother-in-law, Stanley Hallet, and sister-in-law, Eloise Haugland.
Private family services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Petersen Lund Chapel in Forest City. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa - Mason City in Sally Peterson's name.
