April 9, 1932 - February 26, 2007Carlyle Lauren Olson, 74, died on Monday, February 26, 2007, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Carlyle Lauren Olson was born on April 9, 1932, in Eden Township, Iowa, to Oscar and Ida Olson. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On February 21, 1976, he married Carol Redig Olson. For many years, he farmed north of Thompson. He later worked at Winnebago Industries as a metal press operator.
Carlyle enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and being outdoors. He liked woodworking, restoring old furniture, and collecting race car memorabilia and toy tractors and airplanes. He was also an active member of the VFW in Leland.
Carlyle is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Carol; his son, Mark Bakken, of Kiester, Minnesota, and his daughter, Vickie Skartland, and her husband, Gary, also of Kiester, Minnesota; his brother, David Olson, and his wife, Cheryl, of Owatonna, Minnesota; and three sisters, Mona Hasche, and her husband, Harold, of Rock Rapids, Carolyn Ullestad, of Story City, and Ruth Forrey, of Mankato, Minnesota.
Carlyle is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Olson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Thompson, with Pastor Chris Fiske officiating. Interment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Thompson, Iowa. The Winter Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
