Evelyn G. Wegman
January 13, 1926 - February 3, 2014Evelyn G. Lovik Weston Wegman passed away on February 3, 2014.
The oldest of six children, Evelyn was born on January 13, 1926, on the family farm east of Forest City, Iowa.
Evelyn met George Weston in Salt Lake City when she roomed in the same building as his sister. She married him on June 12, 1947. They lived in Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, and North Dakota before settling in Thor where they lived for twenty-two years. They had three daughters: Linda, Vickie, and Kathy. George died in 1975. Later, Evelyn met Ernest Wegman at a dance at the Bohemian Hall in Fort Dodge. They married in 1978 and lived in Carroll. Ernie died in 2005. She may never have celebrated a fiftieth anniversary, but she was proud of her two silver anniversary celebrations. In 2011, Evelyn moved to an assisted living center in Pleasant Hill where she finished her long journey home.
Evelyn loved to talk and laugh. She also enjoyed travel. Wherever she went, she could meet people and find a connection back to Iowa or back to someone she knew. She loved getting together with family, especially with her sisters and her daughters. A faithful Christian, she always participated actively in her church family. A music lover, she had a beautiful singing voice. She sang in the church choirs at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor and in the choirs, especially in the Funeral Choir, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. An accomplished seamstress, she made beautiful clothes for herself, her daughters, and their dolls. Throughout her life, she loved books and reading. To her great joy in later life, she finally had time to read as much as she wanted.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Cora Lovik; her first husband, George; her second husband, Ernie; and her son-in-law, David Reinier. She is survived by her two brothers, Harold and Gilman; her triplet sisters, Darlene, Dollie, and Donna, and their families; and her three daughters, Linda Anderson, of New Orleans, Vickie Reinier, of Mitchellville, and Kathy Dickinson (Greg), of Ankeny; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
We would like to thank the staff at Courtyard Estates in Pleasant Hill for all their love and care in Evelyn’s last days.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny.
Memorials will be donated to the public libraries at Humboldt and Carroll.
