FOREST CITY- Doris M. Thompson, 90, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at The Cedars of Austin, Minnesota.

Doris Mae (Hall) Thompson, a daughter of Ben and Julia (Petersen) Hall, was born on October 2, 1923, in Jewell, Iowa, the second daughter and the youngest of seven children. She moved to Hanlontown as a small child and attended her early years of elementary school there. After graduating from Forest City High School in 1940, she worked in the Forest City Bakery for two years before marrying LeRoy Thompson on February 28th of 1942. They were blessed with over seventy-one years of marriage together.

LeRoy and Doris farmed in Leland, Crystal Lake, and Forest City, before settling on a farm four miles west of Leland in 1952. They lived there for thirty years before retiring in 1982. They, then, moved to an acreage two miles outside of Forest City where they enjoyed another thirty years together. In their retired years, they enjoyed camping and spending their winters in south Texas.

A devoted wife and a dedicated homemaker, Doris was well known for her delicious baked goods and home cooked meals. A dedicated and faithful helpmate, she also assisted alongside LeRoy in many of the farming duties. Doris enjoyed gardening and canning, and she delighted in entertaining family and friends in her home. She volunteered as both a 4-H and an Awana Club leader, and she faithfully served in several additional ministry roles at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City, Iowa.

Realizing God's gift to her, she, daily, loved and served those around her including her family, church, and community. She always found joy in attending to the needs of her family. LeRoy and Doris had four children, Duane, of Ankeny, Iowa, and his children, Denise (Craig) and Dan; Sandra, of Phoenix, Arizona, and her children, Christie (Jason) and Steven (Lauren); Tom (Becki), of Forest City, Iowa, and their children, Scott (Tisha), Seth (Josi), Shaun (Emily); and Patti (Tom), of Port Orange, Florida, and their children, Tom, Jr., and Katherine (Tim); twenty great-grandchildren including three on the way: Matthew, Lauren, Emma, Evan, Justin, Jason, Jr., Isaac, Ian, Isabella, Lee, Miread, Noel, Olivia, Jessalyn, Jorgia, Ezra, and Jericho.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Julia; and her siblings, Melvin, Bueford, Elmer, Sylvia, Gordon, and Ben.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Weaver officiating. Burial will take place at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M., Friday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St., and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Hospice of Austin, Minnesota.
