April 25, 1935 - December 5, 2013FOREST CITY- Mildred Dontje, 78, of Forest City, died on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.
Mildred Dontje, a daughter of Reider and Anna (Onken) Aukes, was born on April 25, 1935, in Buffalo Center, Iowa. She attended school until the 8th grade. On December 2, 1955, she married Donald Dontje. They farmed in rural Buffalo Center before moving to Forest City in 1971. She worked for the Forest City Schools in the cafeteria for a short time and also for Waldorf College as the Recreational Room Supervisor, a job she truly enjoyed.
In addition, Milly loved to shop and spend time with her daughter and her grandchildren. She was a long time member of the Congregational Church in Forest City. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Debbie Sherman, and her husband, Todd, of Lancaster, California; her grandchildren, Sheldon Sherman, Melissa McNulty, and her husband, Erin, and Nicole Sherman; her sister, Mary (Mohamed) Khowassah, of Iowa City, Iowa, and her brother, Rollin (Janice) Aukes, of Kiester, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; her brothers, Donald, Ervin, Robert, Merle, Loran, and Ray Aukes; and her sisters, Lily (Aukes) Weaver, Maxine (Aukes) Harms, and Ruby (Aukes) Hofbauer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the First Congregational Church in Forest City with Pastor Joyce Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will take place in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa.
