(December 1, 1937 - November 25, 2013)U.S. Veteran Dennis G. Dahl, age 75, of rural Northwood, formerly of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, died Monday, November 25, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Dennis Gary Dahl was born on December 1, 1937, in Winnebago County, Iowa, the third son of Lawrence and Viola “Bobbie”¯ (Halvorson) Dahl. After graduating from Emmons High School in 1955, he served in the United States Army for three years.
Following his honorable discharge, Dennis attended and then graduated from Mankato State University, now known as Minnesota State University, in 1962. For the first five years of his career, he taught in Frost, Minnesota, before moving on to the North St. Paul-Maplewood schools where he taught for twenty-eight years.
On November 2, 1963, Dennis married Kathleen Rasmusson. They lived in Frost, Maplewood, and White Bear Lake, Minnesota. A few years after retiring, Dennis and Kathy moved to the Emmons area, which Dennis referred to as “paradise”¯ or the “cabin in the cornfield”¯ since they spent their winters in Mission, Texas.
An avid outdoorsman , Dennis loved hunting, fishing, golfing, trimming trees, and keeping a meticulous yard.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of rural Northwood, Iowa; his son, Michael (Marge) Dahl, of Madison, Alabama; his grandchildren, Ryan and Lise; and two special nephews, Greg (Dawn), of South St. Paul, Minnesota, and David (Kerri), of Emmons, Minnesota; as well as by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Lynn; and a grandson, Matthew.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minnesota, with Rev. Christopher W. Martin officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Louis Tveite Post #317. Visitation with Dennis’ family will be on Friday, November 29, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the social hall also at the Emmons Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
