Lowell E. Storby
(April 1, 1950 - November 5, 2013)

Lowell E. Storby, 63, of Lake Mills, Iowa, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.

Lowell Eugene Storby was born on April 1, 1950, at Forest City, Iowa, the son of Lester and Orpha (Bye) Storby. He attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School. He, then, enrolled at Iowa State University where he completed a BA degree in history and economics.

On September 7, 2002, Lowell married Julia Judith Beltrán Ruiz at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Leland.

Lowell farmed for many years, the last with his boys, Matt and Luke, and for twenty-one years, he also owned and operated Storby Seed. He serviced area farmers with their corn and soybean needs. Above all, however, he loved to plant and pick corn. He checked his crops daily, and like clock-work, he took 4:00 pm coffee breaks at The Grand.

Lowell valued the members of his family, not only here in Iowa but also in Mazatlan. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, watching their sporting events, and babysitting his grandson, Braylen. He loved to entertain at his house in Mazatlan and took every chance he could to have a BBQ. When he couldn’t host at his home, he enjoyed going out to eat and socialize with his friends. Among other activities, Lowell enjoyed spending weekends pheasant and deer hunting with friends, fresh water fishing, especially in Canada, and deep sea fishing in Mazatlan, and playing bocce ball on the beach and cards, especially Texas Hold’em, at various localities and in tournaments for money. He always strove to wear shorts and flip-flops year round (spring/summer in Iowa and fall/winter in Mazatlan).

Lowell is survived by his loving wife, Julia; two sons, Matthew (Chantel) Storby, and Lucas Storby; and one grandson, Braylen Storby, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; his sister, Carole (Jim) Fessler, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and his brother, David (Diane) Storby, of Dallas, Oregon; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Center Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Leland with Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Center Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in rural Leland.
