Esther (Rusley) Anderson, 87, of Northwood, Iowa, formerly of rural Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 07, 2013, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Esther Victoria (Rusley) Anderson was born on September 20, 1925, in Mount Valley Township, Winnebago County, to Jacob and Tomine (Ramsey) Rusley. Baptized and confirmed at Winnebago Lutheran Church, she attended country school and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1943.

Esther married Russell Anderson on December 31, 1944, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church. After their wedding, they resided near Scarville until the early 1950s when they moved to the Rusley home place in Mount Valley Township.

Very active at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, Esther served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Lydia circle and Ladies Aide as well as on numerous other committees. She enjoyed her family, music, singing, crafts, needlepoint, quilting, yard work, baking, cooking, and plowing on her 966 International tractor.

Esther is survived by her daughters, Jan Kudej and Linda (Fran) Anderson Koch, all of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Cheryl (David) Gentz, of Northwood, Iowa; three grandchildren, Matthew Kudej, of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Hannah and Bethany Gentz, of Northwood, Iowa; two step-grandchildren, Naomi (Dan) Schutz and Jake (Jessica) Gentz, of Northwood; and four step-great-grandchildren, Jace and Olivia Gentz and Aydan and Austin Schutz; and two sisters-in-law, Carmen Rusley, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Helga Anderson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; her son, Robert; her grandson, Michael Kudej; four brothers, Truman, Glennis, Sam, and James Rusley; and two sisters, Irene Arnevik and Ruth Charlson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation for Esther will be on Friday, May 10, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Esther’s family would like to thank the staff of the Lutheran Retirement Home and The Pines Assisted Living for all the great care provided to Esther over the past five years as well as the staff of Hospice of North Iowa for the care provided more recently.
