(December 2, 1914 - April 22, 2013)Lillian L. Andersen, 98, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Lillian Luella (Leonhardi) Andersen was born on December 2, 1914, to Louis and Ella (Freemott) Leonhardi in Nunda Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. She attended Emmons High School and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1932. On October 19, 1932, she married Marion Andersen. Seven children were born to this union.
Lillian was a homemaker and farm wife. A lifelong member of Round Prairie Lutheran Church, she greatly valued her faith and church community. Active in Ladies Aid, circle, and choir, she also served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher for many years.
In 1975, she and Marion divorced, and she moved to Lake Mills, Iowa, where she worked part-time at Three Oaks Greenhouse. She also loved to travel. Indeed, she visited every state in the Union and many foreign countries as well, and she especially enjoyed spending winters with her daughter and family in Arizona.
Survivors include her children, Merlyn (Karen) Andersen, of Twin Lakes, Minnesota, Frances Peterson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Lorraine (Paul) Nagel, of Glenville, Minnesota, Gordon (Cruz) Andersen, of Reno, Nevada, Roland Andersen, of Ely, Minnesota, and Joanne (Richard) Holt, of Peoria, Arizona; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dora Oney and Lucille Greeney Anderson, both of Waseca, Minnesota, and Nylene Sherman, of Cambridge, Maryland; and a sister-in-law, Mary Landaas, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lila, in infancy; a daughter-in-law, Judy Andersen; a son-in-law, Roger Peterson; two grandsons Dana Andersen and Bob Peterson; and a sister, Edna Olson; as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law; and a nephew Tom Greeney.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, April 26, 2013, at Round Prairie Church in rural Glenville, Minnesota, with Pastor Kent A. Otterman officiating. Visitation will be at Round Prairie Church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Her body will be cremated after the funeral service and inurnment will take place at Round Prairie Cemetery with a private family service at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd Street NE, Mason City, Iowa, 50401.
