GARNER—Bruce E. Anderson, age 79, of Garner, former men’s clothing store owner in Forest City and former resident of Klemme, died on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Bruce Anderson was born on May 20, 1924, in Forest City, the son of Orville S. and Marguerite (Newman) Anderson. He attended and graduated from Forest City High School in 1942. He, then, attended Carlton College in Northfield, Minnesota, for a time. Later, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force Pilot’s Training Program in Oklahoma. Serving in the Army from June 17, 1943, until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1945, he flew B- Bombers as a pilot, co-pilot, and crew commander in the Central European Theatre during World War II. He received an EAME Theater Service Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. At the time of his discharge, he was an aviation cadet. Bruce was a life-long member of the American Legion and VFW.

Bruce married Arleen Manus on January 7, 1980, at Lincoln, Nebraska. He owned and operated his own clothing business in Forest City for many years. Until his retirement in 2000, he and Arleen traveled together as manufacturers’ representatives.

Bruce and Arleen very much enjoyed Benchrest shooting competitions. Bruce was an excellent marksman. He, also, raised registered quarter horses for many years. He loved photography and did his own developing. An avid golfer, he also shared that pastime with Arleen. Above all, he loved spending time with family and friends, especially with his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Arleen Anderson, of Garner; his daughters, Nancy Garcia, and her husband, Charlie, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lori Lau, and her husband, Mark, of Garner, and Cindy Wingerson, and her husband, Tracy, of Fort Dodge; his sons, Tim, and his wife, Patty Anderson, of Bloomington, Minnesota, Dan, and his wife, Sherry Manus, of Klemme, and Kurt, and his wife, Shazia Manus, of Ames; his grandchildren, Josh and Andy Garcia, Zach and Amy Anderson, Traci Cox, Ben, Renae, and Hannah Lau, Baylie and Carter Wingerson, and Jordan, Jenna, Jamin, and Ezra Manus; two great grandchildren, Emma Hartigan and Reilly Garcia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gregory Bruce Anderson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2004, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Father Michael Schueller officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place in the St. James Cemetery, Forest City. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 4, 2004, at the Tenold-Andrews Funeral Home in Klemme and will continue one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family of Bruce Anderson or to the donor’s choice.
