February 17, 1920 - July 24, 2007FOREST CITY—Mildred L. Thompson, 87, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Mildred Luella Thompson, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Brakke) Olson, was born on February 17, 1920, at Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was raised by Palmer and Nora Olson of Leland and grew up with their son, Clifford, as her brother. She attended school at Lake Mills. On December 9, 1937, she married Alfred Thompson at Scarville. They farmed in the Leland, Scarville, and Forest City areas. After retiring from farming, they moved into Lake Mills and in 1973 to Forest City. She enjoyed spending time with her family, tending her flowers, and wintering in Texas. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Jean (Allen) Peterson, of Leland; and her son, Jerry (Debbie) Thompson, of Lebanon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Nancy (Bruce) Buffington, of Forest City, Tammy Callahan, of Leland, and David (Robin) Peterson, of Forest City; five great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 1985; her parents; her son, Duane; and two great granddaughters, Heather and Tara.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 28, 2007, at West Prairie Lutheran Church near Leland with Rev. Timothy Miller officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Vinje. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City is in charge of arrangements.
