Edna Balvance
(February 6, 1920 - January 23, 2013)Wednesday evening, January 23, 2013, our Heavenly Father reached out his hand and welcomed Edna to her heavenly home.
Edna Balvance, age 92, of Buffalo Center, passed away at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
Edna Jeanette (Sleper) Balvance was born on February 6, 1920, to John E. and Etta (Rippentrop) Sleper, the fifth of seven children. She graduated from Titonka High School in 1937.
Edna met Lawrence Balvance at a Sunday school picnic. On February 21, 1940, they began their sixty-four year marriage at the Ramsey Reformed Church. They were blessed with three children: Beth, Larry, and Jean.
Edna and Lawrence farmed in the Buffalo Center area for twenty years. Later, they purchased the Hardware Store in town where Edna enjoyed fixing windows, mixing paint, and waiting on customers. After retiring, she had more time to enjoy sewing, baking, embroidery, and coffee parties.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Beth Ketterling (Rich), of St. Michael, Minnesota, and Jean Faber (Rick), of Omaha, Nebraska; her daughter-in-law, Carol Balvance, of Shakopee, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Erna Sleper, of Titonka.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters and two brothers; her husband, Lawrence; her son, Larry; her grandson, Scott; and her son-in-law, David.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.
