Luella Marie (Wogen) Flo, age 89, of Lake Mills, died Friday, August 03, 2007, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Luella Marie (Wogen) Flo, the daughter of Berta Elisabet “Lizzie” (Wiig) and Severin “Sam” Wogen, was born on August 7, 1917, in Humboldt County, Iowa. Both of her parents had emigrated from Norway. Luella was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Humboldt and attended school there. At the age of nine, she moved with her family to rural Lake Mills.

Luella attended school in Lake Mills through the tenth grade until her family moved to a farm south of Vinje, Iowa. She was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Vinje. In 1933, the family moved to a farm east of Kiester, Minnesota, and she attended Kiester High School, graduating in 1935. Subsequently, she attended Waldorf College and taught country school for several years.

On March 23, 1941, Luella married Bert Flo at her parents’ home near Kiester. Bert and Luella farmed near Mansfield, Minnesota, for one year and then near Leland, Iowa, for four years. In 1946, they moved to their farm in Eden Township, Winnebago County, Iowa.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Luella served as Ladies Aid president, Sunday school superintendent, and Sunday school teacher. She was also a 4-H leader for many years and had been Winnebago County Farm Bureau president. After retiring from farming, Bert and Luella enjoyed spending the winter months in McAllen, Texas.

Survivors include her children, Lois Hackbarth, of Rochester, Minnesota, Barbara (Joel) Hipps, of Laguna Niguel, California, and Steven (Karen) Flo, of Kasota, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Anne (Patrick) Arnold, of Allen, Texas, John (Greta Boesel) Hackbarth, of San Francisco, California, Jane (Terry Gullickson) Hackbarth, of Rochester, Minnesota, Paul Hackbarth, of Rochester, Minnesota, Stephanie (Lara Morgan) Hipps, of Santa Cruz, California, Daniel (Lynn Archer, J.D.) Flo, J.D., of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Theresa (Michael) Gunderson, of North Mankato, Minnesota, and Dr. Jennifer (Maria Gaycheck) Flo, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; seven great grandchildren, Michael Arnold, Jarred Peittersen, Derick Funk, Jake and Kia Flo, Catherine Archer-Flo, and Liam Gunderson; a sister, Selma Sime, of Lake Mills, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Wogen, of Lake Mills, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lizzie; her husband, Bert; her grandson-in-law, Rick Funk; and three brothers, Elvin, Milford, and Stanley Wogen.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, August 6, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kiester, Minnesota [rural Thompson, Winnebago County, Iowa], with Pastor Chris Fiske officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 5, 2007, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
