Amy Swenson
(February 11, 1931 - July 20, 2012)

Amy Swenson, 81, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Amy Gabbay Swenson was born on February 11, 1931, in Iraq to Ezra and Louise Gabbay, the youngest of four children.

The family later moved to Israel, and Amy eventually came to the United States for work. She met her future husband, Oswald Swenson, in San Francisco, and they were married on May 20, 1963.

Amy and Ozzie loved to travel. They especially enjoyed their trips to Norway, Switzerland, and Israel as well as cruising through the Panama Canal. Over the years, they had several dogs which they treated as important members of their family. A people person, Amy also enjoyed the customers she met while employed at a travel agency and, in later years, at her part-time position in a bookstore.

In the fall of 2011, Amy and Ozzie sold their home and moved from Saratoga, California, to the Care Center in Lake Mills to be closer to their Iowa relatives.

Amy is lovingly survived by her husband, Oswald, of Lake Mills; her brothers, Jacob and Oved, in Israel; her sisters-in-law, Rhoda Brue, Marlys Swenson, Mary Swenson, and Marie Luff; and her brothers-in-law, Arnie Ottjes and Don Luff; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Louise Gabbay, and a sister, all of Israel; her sister-in-law, Millie Ottjes; her brothers-in-law, Charles Brue, Gordon Swenson, and Wallace Swenson; and her nephew, Mark Ottjes, along with many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, 4:00 to 5:00 PM, Friday, at Salem Lutheran Church.
Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa.
