November 16, 1971 - July 19, 2012

Steven Thompson, 40, of Britt, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.

Steve was born November 16, 1971, to Darwin and Jean Kamp Thompson in Forest City. He was raised around the Forest City area and finished his education at West Hancock Schools in 1990. In July, 1995, he married his wife, Tammy, and welcomed her daughter, Briana, as his own. They were blessed with their own daughter, Paige, on his birthday of that same year. In October of 1997, their angel, Alexis, added more blessings to the family. In 2000, they were overjoyed with the birth of their one and only son, Hunter. Steve’s children were his world.

Steve enjoyed watching many sports: football (including the Vikings), Twins baseball, Nascar (especially when Jimmie Johnson was winning), and college basketball. He loved the outdoors, spending time playing frisbee golf, swimming, and camping. A friend to almost everyone he met, Steve always had a smile on his face to cheer them up. He would do anything within his power for a friend or family member.

For the past five years, Steve had been doing what he loved, working as an engineer for the railroad. Prior to that, he was a painter at IMT and Winnebago.

An awesome guy, Steve could always make people smile and laugh! A great friend, a wonderful husband and dad, he will be missed by all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his wife, Tammy, of Britt; their four children, Briana, Paige, Alexis, and Hunter, all of Britt; his mother, Jean Thompson, of Forest City; his sister, Valorie Thompson-Nielsen, of Forest City, his brother, Daniel (Mary) Thompson, also of Forest City, and Duane Thompson, of Arizona; his father-in-law, Don Dakin, of Moravia, his mother-in-law, Shari Dakin, of Klemme; his brothers-in-law, Matt Dakin, of Moravia, and Keith (Billy Jo) Dakin, of Forest City, as well as many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Darwin; his brother, Jim; his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services for Steven Thompson will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the Christian Reformed Church, 569 Main Avenue North, Britt, with Pastor Joel DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, Britt, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
