Vincent R. Finer
(September 7, 1925 - April 12, 2012)

Vincent R. Finer, 86, of Leland, Iowa, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Vincent R. Finer was born on September 7, 1925, on a farm near Thompson, Iowa, to Rudolph A. and Evelyn (Anderson) Finer. He attended King No. 8 rural school near Thompson for eight years, and then Thompson High School until he was inducted into the United States Navy. Vincent entered the service on August 21, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, and served in the Pacific Theater until he was honorably discharged on August 16, 1946.

He married Eunice Christ on June 21, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. They resided on a farm in Mt. Valley Township for forty-two years before retiring to Leland, Iowa, where he was still residing at the time of his death.

Vincent enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, working with wood, doing crafts, riding tractors, driving his Mustang, and spending time with his family. He and Eunice wintered at Fiesta Village in Mission, Texas, for thirty-two years. Vincent was a proud member of the Leland VFW Post #6161 and an active member of Winnebago Lutheran Church where he served in many capacities.

Survivors include his wife of nearly sixty-two years, Eunice, of Leland, Iowa; three children, Carolyn (Mark) Brock, of West Branch, Iowa, Donna (David) Reineke, of Forest City, Iowa, and Steven (Becky) Finer, of Emmetsburg, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Marcus, Julie, and Adam Brock, Christopher and Matthew (Beth) Reineke, and Angela, Dustin, and Joshua (fiancée Tarra Gacke) Finer; and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Moriah Reineke; five sisters, Virginia Meineke, of Forest City, Iowa, Ardis Olson, of Des Moines, Iowa, Lois (Ralph) Holst, of Leland, Iowa, Ruby Olson, of Richfield, Minnesota, and Barbara (Ron) Thompson, of Urbandale, Iowa; two brothers, Keith (Beverly) Finer, of Thompson, Iowa, and Kenneth (Sue) Finer, of Perry, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Joann Finer, of Thompson, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Evelyn; two sisters, Eileen Strong and Marjorie Senne; and a brother, Junior Finer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 16, 2012, at Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, Iowa, with military honors conducted by the Leland VFW Post #6161.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 15, 2012, from 3:00 until 5:00 pm at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, 40029 210th Avenue, rural Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday.
