Betsy Thorson
March 1, 1817 - November 1, 1895

Mrs. Betsy Thorson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. Gavin, in Forest township, Friday, November 1, 1895, at the age of 78 years and 8 months.

Mrs. Thorson was born in Norway, March 1, 1817, married Hans Thorson in 1840, came to America in 1849, settling in Dane county, Wisconsin. In 1867 she removed to this county, settling on a farm two miles north of this city, where she has since resided.

Mrs. Thorson was the mother of eight children, seven of whom survive her. Those living are Thomas and Andrew Thorson and Mrs. P. Gavin residing near Forest City, Nels Thorson, of Northwood, Mrs. Frank Awe, of Buffalo Center, and Ole Hanson, living in Wisconsin.

Mrs. Thorson expressed herself as ready and willing to depart, feeling that her work was done. She was a faithful Christian and her long life was filled with acts of charity and benevolence which will remain as monuments to her memory. The family have the sympathy of all in their bereavement, and desire for us to express for them their sincere thanks to the many kind friends who assisted and comforted them in their sorrow.

The funeral services were held Sunday conducted at the house by Rev. J. D. Mason and at the Lutheran conference church of this city by Rev. C. S. Silveson. The remains were interred in Oakwood Cemetery.
