Another Old Settler Suddenly Answers the Summons of Death

P. N. Lundstrum died at his home north of town last Friday afternoon [July 12, 1895]. The bursting of a blood vessel in the brain was the cause of his death. He had been in excellent health up to the day of his death and the announcement of his sudden taking off fell like a thunderbolt on the community. Mr. Lundstrum was in the city on the day of his death and in conversation with some of his friends complained of not feeling very well and shortly afterward returned home. Soon after reaching home he fell into an unconscious state and before medical aid could be procured had passed away.

Peter N. Lundstrum was born in Quarasta [sic], Sweden, December 7, 1841. He was married in Engelstrp [sic], Sweden, April 27, 1867, and in 1873 removed to America, landing in Forest City June 21st of that year. He settled on a farm north of town where he has since resided, and where by hard labor and frugality he had garnered enough of this world’s goods to provide for old age. His strict honesty and integrity won for him the confidence and esteem of his neighbors and of all who knew him. He was often called upon to fill positions of trust and filled them with the zeal and faithfulness that was characteristic of his life. He was a member of the Swedish Baptist church and was a trustee and cashier of that society.

Mr. Lundstrum leaves a family consisting of a wife and eight children—five boys and three girls—all of whom are residing at home or in this immediate vicinity. They have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their bereavement.

The funeral was held Sunday, a short service being held at the house at ten o’clock a.m. after which the remains were conveyed to the Swedish Baptist church where the last beautiful and impressive ceremony was performed by Rev Shulane in the presence of one of the largest concourses of people that has ever assembled in this vicinity to do honor to the dead and the body was lowered by the hands of loving friends to its last resting place. Peace to his ashes and honor to his memory.
