June 22, 1930 - July 25, 2019

Betty Jane (Rads) Berglund, age 89, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Betty was born on June 22, 1930, to Ruth (Vosgreau) and Herbert Rads of Chicago, Illinois. Growing up in Chicago, she attended Lakeview High School on the North Side. She met her future husband, George Robert Berglund, while working at Goldblatt’s Department Store. They married on September 20, 1952, at Pilgrim Church in Chicago. They would celebrate their sixty-fifth anniversary before George’s passing on February 19, 2018. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she dedicated her life to the happiness and success of her family.

Betty worked as a secretary for an advertising agency and as secretary for Bethany Lutheran Church in the Avondale neighborhood on the North Side of Chicago. She and George lived in their home on Newport Avenue for thirty-nine years before moving to Plainfield, Illinois, where they lived for sixteen years before relocating to Iowa.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, Kenneth (Christine) Berglund, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Cindy (Bob) Sarver, of Leland, Iowa; her four grandchildren: Matthew (Becky) Berglund, of Albany, Oregon, Amanda Berglund, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Jessica (Kent) Poulsen, of Aurora, Illinois, and Bobby (Robyn) Sarver, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and one great-granddaughter, Sabina Berglund, also of Albany, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her two brothers, Raymond and Robert.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2019, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Betty’s family will meet friends at the funeral home for one half hour before the service. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, rural Leland, Iowa.
