Keith A. Hagenson
January 14, 1931 ~ June 19, 2019

Keith Arthur Hagenson, the second son of Arthur and Alice (Solberg) Hagenson, was born on January 14, 1931, at the family home in rural Forest City. Growing up in Thompson, he attended country school and later Thompson Community School.

Drafted into the United States Army on May 22, 1952, Keith served with the 51st Field Artillery Battalion, 6th Infantry Division. After completing his basic training at Fort Ord, California, he served as a truck driver and later as a ration clerk in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge from the army in 1954, Keith worked at the ASCS office (Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service). On June 22, 1956, he married Shirley Abels at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Together, they made their home in Thompson and Buffalo Center while raising three daughters. They farmed until 1997 when he and Shirley retired and moved into Buffalo Center. They enjoyed taking family vacations, delivering Winnebago motorhomes across the country, camping, and wintering in Texas for thirty years.

A member of the American Legion for fifty years, Keith, also, served as a board member for the Farmers Coop Elevator and the Cooperative Oil Company. An active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he served on the church council.

After retiring, he enjoyed having coffee with the guys, woodworking, fishing, going on tractor rides, and tinkering in his shop.

Keith will be remembered as a kind, gentle man and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he took an interest in their activities, jobs, and families. Keith died on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the Timely Mission Nursing home in Buffalo Center. He was 88.

He is survived by Shirley, his wife of almost sixty-three years; his daughters and their families: Sheryl (Kim) Davids, of Buffalo Center, (children: Jennifer (Brian) Kramersmeier, Megan (Andy) Wintz, and Logan (Cassandra) Davids); Vicki (Rod) Wubben, of Buffalo Center, (children: Jason (Rachel) and Nathan (Jamie) Wubben, and Emi (Nick) Hartman; LeAnn Doyle, of Garner, (son Eric Doyle); thirteen great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Verlie Hagenson, Doris (Richard) Heyes, Cari (Dan) Mitchell, Marlene Abels (Andy Strom), and his brother-in-law, Ron (Linda) Abels.
