Dixie L. Rauk was born in Forest City, Iowa, to Burtis and Bernice (McFarland) Benson on March 6, 1936. She attended and then graduated from Forest City High School in 1953. On June 9, 1954, she married to Carlyle James Rauk. For thirty-three years they operated a dairy farm in the Forest City area.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carlyle, in 2012.
