Oswald "Ozzie" Rognes
March 28, 1922 - March 27, 2019

Oswald (Ozzie) Rognes, age 96, of Lake Mills, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, the day before his 97th birthday, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Ozzie was born on the family farm near Scarville, Iowa, on March 28, 1922, to Alfred and Jenette (Bye) Rognes. Confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, he grew up on the family farm with seven brothers and sisters. He attended country school and graduated from Joice High School. On February 26, 1943, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Muriel Petersburg, at the Beaver Creek Lutheran Church. To their union, five children were born: Michael, Dennis, Linda, Becky, and Todd.

Ozzie loved farming and took great pride in his farming operation. Later in life, he built several homes in the Rice Lake area and continued to help his son with field work for many years. A 4-H leader, he served on several community, church, and business boards through the years including the Iowa Beef Producers Association, the Lake Mills Community School Board, the Rice Lake Golf & Country Club, Salem Lutheran Church, and Winnebago Mutual.

Ozzie and Muriel enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing cards, and passing their winters in Texas. An avid golfer, Ozzie, proudly, said he’d recorded six “holes-in-one” during his life and shot his age several times. Later in life, he enjoyed driving his John Deere 730 on local tractor rides.

Ozzie is survived by Muriel Rognes, his wife of 76 years of Lake Mills, Iowa; his sons, Michael (Jean) Rognes, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Dennis (LuAnne) Rognes, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Todd (Susan) Rognes of Clear Lake, Iowa; his daughters, Linda (Maury) Hope, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Becky (Steve) Johnson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; ten grandchildren: Matt (Laura Zaugg) Hope; Scott Johnson; Chandler, Charles (Jamie), Elizabeth (Jason Johnson), Kjersti, Paul (Becky), and Reed Rognes; Ellie (Garret) Schumaker; and Stephanie (Jeff) Summy; twelve great-grandchildren: Landon Johnson; Nelson and Ingrid Rognes-Johnson; Lindsey, Leah, and Raelynn Rognes; Owen Schumaker; and Jackson, Grant, Cooper, Cal, and Henry Summy; and one brother, Ray (Loretta) Rognes, of Tampa, Florida, three sisters, June Bang, of Oviedo, Florida, Rosella Purcell, of Amherst, Ohio, and Norma Barville, of Batavia, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Colleen Rogness, of Lake Mills, Iowa; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Mark Rognes; three brothers, Jerome Rognes, Byford Rogness, and Al Rognes; and his father- and mother-in-law, Edwin and Mabel Petersburg, as well as other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, April 1, 2019, at Salem Lutheran Church, 401 S Lake Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, with Pastor Joel L. Guttormson officiating.
