June 24, 1927 - April 8, 2019Surrounded by her loving family, Elaine Nerdig, 91, of Forest City, died on Monday, April 8, 2019, at the Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa.
Elaine A. Nerdig, a daughter of Archie and Etta (Holmseth) Anderson, was born on June 24, 1927, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. After attending and then graduating from Rake High School, she furthered her education at Mankato Business School. On February 21, 1948, she married Dale Nerdig at the Liberty Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. Subsequently, four children were born to their union.
For many years, Elaine and Dale farmed in the Rake and Thompson areas before moving to Forest City in 1969 when she started working for Winnebago Industries. Elaine worked there until she retired in 1989.
In her free time, Elaine enjoyed quilting, working on puzzles, and baking. Otherwise, she loved hosting all the family holiday events and get-togethers at her home. Moreover, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events as well as the wonderful times she had with her family. A long-time faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she volunteered countless hours and participated in her circle. She will be, dearly, missed by all who knew and loved her.
Elaine is survived by her children: Linda (Don) Gruis, of Buffalo Center, Vickie Swanson, of Forest City, Roger (Linda) Nerdig, of Algona, and Lori (Dave) Schlitter, of Spring Valley, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Alison (Nick) Bailey, Angie (Tim) DeWaard, Emily (Soren) Grandall, Shari and Jason (Rachelle) Gruis, Kelli (Verne) Hecker, Amber (Scott) Kollasch, Sarah (Seth) McChesney, Michael Schlitter, and Matthew Swanson, and special friend, Jenna Hagen; her great-grandchildren: Ryan and Kelsey Bailey, Tyler and Alyssa DeWaard, Tate Grandall, Leigha Gruis, Lillian Krogmann, Carson and Drake McChesney, and baby Kollasch, due in May 2019; her sister, Mavis Ann Rasmussen; and her sisters-in-law: Beverly and Joyce Anderson and Rosie and Sharon Nerdig; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale, in 2014; her brothers: Carlisle (LaRene), Dale, and Ronald Anderson; an infant sister, Beverly Anderson; and her brothers-in-law, Larry and Harvey Nerdig.
