Allen Eugene Hagenson
October 27, 1950 - March 20, 2019Allen Eugene Hagenson, 68, of Thompson, Iowa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
Allen was born on October 27, 1950, in Forest City, Iowa, to Marion and Marjorie (Harlson) Hagenson. Baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, he attended Thompson Community School, graduating with the Class of 1968. Next, he joined his father, Marion, in the family business, Hagenson Trenching. From 1989 until he retired, he worked as a self-employed mechanic and later as a heavy equipment mechanic for Waste Systems in Lake Mills, Iowa.
On June 14, 1969, Allen married Wendy Lee Brackey at Bethany Lutheran Church. To their union, three children were born: Scott, Brandon, and Heidi. Throughout the years, he participated in many community groups including the Thompson Businessmen’s Club, the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, the Thompson City Council, and the Thompson Fire Department.
After retiring, Allen and Wendy enjoyed many pontoon rides with their grandchildren on Clear Lake. In addition, Allen liked helping people and fixing anything broken. In the spare time, he would be tinkering with projects at his shop and drinking coffee for hours with his many friends who stopped in to visit. Moreover, Allen, truly, believed that grandchildren and ice cream belong together as the best part of life!!!
Allen is survived by Wendy, his wife of forty-nine years; his sons Scott (Shelley) Hagenson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Brandon (Jean) Hagenson, of Kiester, Minnesota; his daughter, Heidi (Ron) Van Halle, of Fairport, New York; six grandchildren: Peter, Mitchell, Lauren, Sam, Allie and Olivia; his brother, Dennis (Vicki) Hagenson, of Webster City, Iowa; and his in-laws, Don and Donna Anderson, of Thompson; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Marjorie Hagenson, and his grandparents: P.K. and Anna Hagenson and John and Amelia Harlson, and his niece and nephew, Christopher Nyguard and Grace Lampman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 25, 2019, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 183 2nd Avenue E, Thompson, Iowa 50478, with Pastor Joel L. Guttormson and Pastor Zech Anderson officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again for one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, Iowa.
