Nicholas Emil Damm, a son of Michael and Julie (Sampson) Damm, was born on April 29, 1981, in Edina, Minnesota. Baptized on June 28, 1981, and confirmed on June 2, 1996, he attended Forest City Community Schools, graduating from Forest City High School in 1999. While in high school, he found fulfillment in playing linebacker on the football team and participating on the All State Academic team. Then, he continued his education at Simpson College in Indianola where he played football for two years and graduated with a computer science and math degree along with a minor in history. Next, he completed two years towards a master’s degree in computer science at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

In 2005, he began working as a software engineer at TeamQuest in Clear Lake, Iowa, now HelpSystems, and in 2009, he moved to Clear Lake. He, always, said he played games for a living since he viewed programming as a game. In addition, he enjoyed strategy games with his brother and friends and going to Iowa State football games. Moreover, Nick loved to travel, preferably to a destination with a beach! Otherwise, he found pleasure in frolicking with his black lab, Aladdin, especially at the dog park in Clear Lake. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, he served on the church council and taught Sunday school.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Mike Damm (special friend, Susan Wiley), of Mason City, and Julie Damm, of Forest City (special friend, Don Knutson of Litchfield, Minnesota); his brother, Nathan Damm, of Mason City; and his maternal grandparents, Ron and Jan Sampson, of Windom, Minnesota; along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a goddaughter, Abigail Woolridge.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emil and Viola Damm; and his great aunt, Eva Damm.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rod Hopp officiating.
