Martha Abraham
July 15, 1951 - January 31, 2019Martha Ann Heimdal was born on July 15, 1951, to Edwin and Mattie (Bartleson) Heimdal at the Forest City Hospital in Forest City, Iowa. Baptized at the Winnebago Lutheran Church of rural Lake Mills, Iowa, she was raised alongside her three siblings on farms around Winnebago County. In 1969, she graduated from Lake Mills High School.
On December 27, 1977, Martha married Andrew Abraham. They, subsequently, lived in Champlin, Minnesota, where they raised their three children: Michelle Ann, Marsha Kay, and Mark Andrew. A very loving and devoted mother, she, always, placed her children’s needs ahead of her own.
Martha worked in bookkeeping for various companies. After her husband’s passing, she moved to Waukee, Iowa, to be closer to her family. There, she chose to pursue a college degree at William Penn University, and in 2012, she, proudly, completed a BA in Business.
Among her varied interests, Martha, really, enjoyed following the NFL, especially “her” Minnesota Vikings, and reading. Above all else, however, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going out to eat, and hosting family dinners.
Martha passed away on January 31, 2019, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Chariton, Iowa. She will be, greatly, missed by her children: Michelle, Marsha, and Mark Abraham; her siblings: Elaine Dory, Randy (Marcia) Heimdal, and Edward (Karen) Heimdal; and her aunt, Emma Murfin; as well as by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Mattie Heimdal; her stepfather, Alvin Tweeten; and husband, Andrew Abraham.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Sunday, February 3, 2019, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. A short service will follow at 3:30 p.m.
