Ruby Janet Rauk
July 16, 1924 - December 10, 2018Surrounded by her daughters, Ruby Janet Rauk, 94, of Forest City, died on Monday, December 10, 2018, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin, Minnesota.
A daughter of Nick and Josie Lund, Ruby was born on July 16, 1924, in Thompson, Iowa. In 1942, her family moved to Forest City. She, however, graduated from Thompson High School. Then, she moved to Des Moines with her sister to attend a business school.
After living in Des Moines, she moved back to Forest City to work at the Rationing Board. There, she met Carlton (Pete) Rauk, who would come to get stamps for tires and gas. They, later, married on August 10, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Pastor Reinertson officiated
Next, the young couple moved to a farm northwest of Forest City where they raised four children. After the children started school, Ruby began working first at Don’s Food Market and then as the secretary of the superintendent of Forest City Schools. Involved in many church and community activities, she received the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame award for Winnebago County in 1991. Ruby loved participating in the ground work for the Senior Center.
She lived each day to the fullest and thanked her God for every day. Those left to honor her memory include her daughters: Diane (Bob) Rovang, Pat (Doug) Formanek, and Pam Hertel; and her daughter-in-law, Jan Rauk; as well as eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian, in 2005, and her husband, Carlton (Pete), in 2011.
A blessing to countless people, we cherish her memory. Very proud of her family, Ruby made every one of them feel special.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 28, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. A gathering of friends and family is scheduled from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, and also for one hour before services at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Inurnment of cremains will follow in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City at a later date.
