Jeffrey S. Lund
August 13, 1967 - December 22, 2018

Jeffrey Scott Lund, 51, of Forest City, died unexpectedly, on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at his home in Forest City.

Jeffrey Lund was born on August 13, 1967, at the Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Baptized at the hospital shortly after birth because no one knew for sure if he would live much longer, he was transported from there to Iowa City Children’s Hospital where he spent the next six weeks. Later transferred to another hospital, he was diagnosed with cri du chat syndrome, a condition that would shape the rest of his life. Originally, the doctors had given him a life expectancy of one year at best. After he surpassed that mark, they said only by a miracle could he live to his teenage years. Nonetheless, he lived until December 22, 2018. Truly a miracle, Jeff touched many lives throughout his 51 years.

Jeffrey lived at home for the first five years of his life before Wanda Schnebly and other parents of special needs kids started a blessing named WEE ARC in his hometown of Forest City. He would be picked up in the mornings and spend the day with clients like him. In addition, other caretakers would provide him with the support he needed. In time, WEE ARC evolved into North Central Human Services, Krysilis, and eventually into Mosaic as it is known today. Our family cannot express enough our appreciation to this wonderful organization for the care it afforded Jeff throughout his fifty-one years of life.

Known as Jeffy for a good part of his life, he was always childlike. Indeed, over the years, he became a favorite of his caretakers simply because of his lovable personality. Moreover, he loved his family and always lit up whenever someone came to visit him. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and football on TV, Mom’s home cooking, and a good piece of Dad’s banana cream pie with a glass of milk. He was able to go on special trips when the opportunity arose. Riding in a race car one day and getting to see his Hawkeyes practice football another day thrilled him to the bone.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Judy Gambell; his father, Jim (Mary) Lund; his brothers, Mike (Diane) Lund and Gary Lund; his half-brother, Nathan (Cassie) Gambell; his step-sister, Jessica (Jon) Cahoon; and his step-brother, Mike (April) Gambell; his nieces and nephews, Jayden, Nicholas, Chase, Faith, Jacob, Matthew, and Hunter along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Art Gambell; his uncle, David Gambell; and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 246 South Clark Street, Forest City, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Friday, December 28, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa 50436. Burial will follow in Madison Township Cemetery, rural Forest City. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes gifts to be made to Hospice of North Iowa.
