November 14, 1942 - September 30, 2018

Kathleen Ann (Buffington) Carlson, 75, of Forest City, Iowa, went to join with the Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the Concord Care Center, Garner, Iowa.

A 1960 graduate of Forest City High School, Forest City, Iowa, Kathy was born on November 14, 1942, in Titonka, Iowa, to the late Donald and Dorothy (Budlong) Buffington.

Kathy and her late husband, Ernest Neal Carlson, married on September 7, 1963. A homemaker, she traveled with Ernie as he moved around from various army bases. While Ernie was stationed at Fort Ritchie in Cascade, Maryland, his last assignment, she enjoyed volunteering at the Castle Museum. After Ernie retired from the Army, they moved back home to Forest City, Iowa, where she volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce. In Forest City, she, also, joined the Methodist Church. In her free time, Kathy enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with her family. She will be, dearly, missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by four children: John, and his wife, Karen, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; and Donald, Melinda Keough, and husband, Greg, and Michael Carlson, all of Forest City, Iowa; four grandchildren: Brian (Kate) and Chelsea (Dalton) Carlson, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Courtney (James) Rheingans, and Kelly (Larissa) Munroe, of Canada; and seven great-grandchildren: Morgan, Savannah, and Skylar Carlson and Brier and Charlee Grace Aldridge, all of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and James and Alexa Rheingans; three brothers: Kent (Carol) Buffington, of Morton, Illinois; and Bob (Ann) and Bruce (Nancy) Buffington, all of Forest City, Iowa, as well as by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Carlson, in 1991; and her nephews, Shane and Brandon Buffington.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the Forest City United Methodist Church in Forest City with the Pastor Les Green officiating. Visitation is scheduled for one hour before the services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Wesley Evergreen Cemetery, west of Wesley, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kathleen Carlson memorial fund in care of the family.
