Shannon Gene Torkelson, 41, of Forest City, died on Thursday, July 19, 2018, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, as a result of a construction accident.

A son of Carroll and Linda Hoffman Torkelson, Shannon was born in Britt, Iowa, on September 12, 1976. In 1995, he graduated from Forest City High School. After school, he worked as a cook at the Bungalo restaurant in Forest City.

Shannon, then, started working construction with his dad at Holland Contracting. As a consequence, the other employees started calling him Carroll, a situation which led to some funny phone calls between the wrong Carrolls. After working for Holland Construction for eighteen years, he switched to Kingland Construction so he could spend more time with his family without having to travel so far on jobs.

Shannon loved spending time having fun with his family. He, especially, liked fishing out of his boat and cruising around in his old 1940 Chrysler. In addition, he had so many friends from the past and present that he loved hanging out and joking around with. Usually, he would be sitting in his garage grilling and sharing a laugh and beer with friends. A stand-up guy with a big heart always ready to help out a friend in need no matter what, he touched a lot of lives and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by the love of his life, Kari; his son, Hollis; his step-daughters, Page and Tiffany; his brother-in-law, Josh; and his sister, Melody Soldwisch, and her husband, Scott, of Forest City; along with many, many cousins, aunts, and uncles. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and his parents, Carroll and Linda Hoffman Torkelson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 27, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Bob Snitzer of the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church officiating. A visitation is scheduled for one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Burial will take place in Ellington Township Cemetery, rural Forest City.
