Darrell Keith Hinderaker
July 6, 1967 - August 27, 2018Darrell Keith Hinderaker, 51, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, on August 27, 2018. Diagnosed with Stage 4 Appendix Cancer in 2015, he courageously battled and conquered the disease, but later, he developed other related severe health concerns which drastically affected his quality of life.
Darrell was born on July 6, 1967, in Mason City, Iowa, to Rose (Myers) and Harold Hinderaker. Growing up in northern Iowa, he attended and then graduated from Belmond High School in 1986. In 1993, he graduated from LaJames College of Cosmetology – Massage Therapy. On May 29, 1999, he married Mary Lawson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa. They, then, made their lifelong home in rural Lake Mills. Over the years, Darrell held a variety of jobs including working at Cummins Filtration, Palleton Pallets, Winnebago Industries, and Ventura Foods.
An outdoorsman at heart, Darrell enjoyed fishing for walleye. For more than fifteen years, he fished the Clear Lake Classic Fishing Tournament. In addition, he fished the Grand National Walleye Trail and traveled to tournaments in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio. At his last fishing experience, the Clear Lake Walleye Classic, in May of 2018, he had to crawl on his hands and knees in the boat because of his failing health. As soon as he completed this tournament, he was placed in the hospital for nearly three months. Released from the hospital, he died just a few short days later.
With his brother Duane and anyone else who wanted to come along, Darrell had a passion for duck, pheasant, and goose hunting. Indeed, he loved watching his hunting dogs, Chase and Misty, in action. Moreover, he enjoyed deer hunting, especially with his nephew, Avery, and spending time with his grandchildren. Most of all, however, he will be remembered for his unconditional love for his wife, Mary.
Darrell is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Hinderaker; four step-sons, Randy Lawson, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Andrew Lawson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Larry (Jennifer) Lawson, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Travis (Laurie) Lawson, of Forest City, Iowa; his parents, Rose Hinderaker, of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Harold Hinderaker, of Forest City, Iowa; his three brothers, Dan (Charleen) Hinderaker, of Forest City, Iowa, Duane (Deb) Hinderaker, of New Richland, Minnesota, and Delbert (Ann) Hinderaker, also of Forest City, Iowa; his grandchildren, Landon and Keagan Lawson, of Forest City, Michael and Miranda Lawson, of Lake Mills, and Leighton, Jase, and Easton Lawson, of Buffalo Center; a nephew, Avery (Halle) Hinderaker, of Des Moines, Iowa; and a niece, Tiffany (Cody) Hager, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; as well as by numerous other friends and family members.
Darrell was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clarence and Ruth Hinderaker and Harvey and Nellie Myers; his aunt, Phyllis Hinderaker; his uncles: Sy Halsey; Rueben Hinderaker; and Art, Harvey, Oscar, Ray, and Roy Myers; and his cousins, Mark and John Hinderaker.
