Arlene H. Winter
August 30, 1925 - June 6, 2018

Arlene Hazel Skaare Winter was born on August 30, 1925, in Madison Township, Hancock County, to John and Celia (Eggum) Skaare. She grew up on a farm South of Rake, attending Country school. In 1943, she graduated from Rake High School, and then, on February 27, 1949, she married Jake Gene Winter in Buffalo Center at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They enjoyed sixty-nine wonderful years together.

Before her marriage, Arlene attended Zion Lutheran Church in Rake where she was confirmed on October 22, 1939. After her wedding, she joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. She loved participating in many church groups and activities as well as reading and studying the Bible with her friends in the Ladies Aid Society and the Circle.

Arlene treasured her family. Almost every Sunday after church, for example, she would gather together with her brothers and sisters for dinner and games. In addition, she liked gardening. Canning, pickling, and freezing vegetables for the winter became a family event every fall. Moreover, she, always, had something freshly baked around the house. Most of all, however, she enjoyed playing cards. Indeed, she belonged to many card parties and welcomed any opportunity to play cards with friends and neighbors. Otherwise, to keep busy, she worked at the Timely Mission Nursing home for about thirty years.

Arlene is survived by her husband, Jake; her son, Tom (Jeanie) Winter; her daughter, Cynthia (Jay) Hagen; three grandchildren: Brandi (John) Will, Melissa (Kris) Logue, and Mitch (Danielle) Hagen; her great-grandchildren, Brady and Melene Will; Liam and Owen Logue; and Brylee and Charlette Hagen; and a step-greatgrandchild, Colton Logue; her siblings, Inez Liverca, Lois (Wayne) Hayes, Jerry (Sharyon) Skaare, and Carol Gossman; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Gray; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Celia Skaare; a son, Craig Winter; her siblings, Gladys Winter, James Skaare, and Ronnie Skaare; her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Lyle and Ann Patterson, John and Marion Winter, Sharon Gray, Richard and Gloria Winter, Alvin Winter, and Bob Liverca; and a niece and two nephews, Cheryl Liverca, Keith Winter, and Dennis Winter.

Services will be held on June 11, 2018, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 201 4th Street NE, Buffalo Center, Iowa 50424, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
