Francis Emma Jane Roberts
March 10, 1928 - June 3, 2018Francis Emma Jane Roberts, age 90, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
The third of eight children, Emma Jane was born on March 10, 1928, in Dickens, Nebraska, to Leslie and Vera (Reed) Griffiths. A loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, she dedicated herself to her family. She attended rural school in the Dickens area and High School in Curtis, Nebraska, graduating in1945. During World War II while her brother Eugene was serving in the US Army, she, proudly, helped her father in the fields. Moreover, she, once, helped hand out food to the troops on the trains that stopped at the North Platte, Nebraska, station.
Before marrying Wayne Roberts in Ogallala, Nebraska, on November 27, 1948, Emma Jane taught country school. She enjoyed telling stories of the around fifty different places where she had lived. For sixteen years, she worked for Winnebago at Stitchcraft. Later, she liked spending time fishing and socializing with friends at the Red Lake property she and Wayne owned and traveling to visit relatives, especially her grandchildren. Formerly, an active member of her Circle and the Asbury Methodist Church, she had, at one time, delivered Meals on Wheels as well. Moreover, she, frequently, donated blood and played in several card clubs.
Emma Jane is survived by her husband, Wayne Roberts, of Lake Mills; her sons, Jerry (Linda Giese), of Mason City, and Steve (Deb), of Lake Mills; her grandchildren, Mike Larson, Stacy (John) League, and Wade (Jen) and Jason (Michele) Roberts; her great-grandchildren; her brother, Harold (Shirley) Griffiths; and her sister, Edith (Dennis) Ekdahl; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Eugene and LeRoy Griffiths; her sisters, Myrtle Goedecke, Rosemary Jones, and Phyllis Connell, as well as by her grandchildren Angela and Jarrett Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 107 E. Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Rob Lanphere officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, Lake Mills, or Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.
