Dorothy Mae Abrahamson
November 26, 1944 - June 13, 2018Dorothy Mae Abrahamson, 73, of rural Northwood, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her home.
One of seven children, Dorothy, a daughter of Harvey Alfred and Nadean Katherine (Kammerrer) Witte, was born on November 26, 1944, in Dumont, Iowa. Her siblings included: Joyce Cady, Pauline Leaman, and Gary, Jimmy, Joan, and Mary Lou Witte. Enrolled first in grade school at the Dumont Community Schools, she, later attended and graduated from Hampton-Dumont High School. She, then, enlisted in the United States Army Reserve Control Group. After joining the Army School and completing her training, she became a 72 F20 Data Communication Terminal Specialist. She was honorably discharged after serving for six years. After marrying Ronald Dickinson, she gave birth to Veronica (Dickinson) Peterson. She had Tim and Tony Abrahamson with Donald Kingland. For many years, she worked at Fleetguard Industries in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Dorothy loved doing crafts. Indeed, she had many ideas and plans for making craft items for kids, and she called her group, Kraft’s 4 Kids. They donated much of their precious work to churches and other donation centers. She, also, enjoyed cooking, creating, and most of all, living.
Life was short for her husband; her son, Anthony J. (Tony) Abrahamson; and her daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and Dar Peterson. Now in Heaven with them, they are keeping watch over her son, Tim (Tricia Hannegrefs) Abrahamson; her grandchildren, Kyle Peterson and Christa (Duane) Westbrook; and three great-granddaughters: Tia, Myrah, and Keila Westbrook; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, June 23, 2018, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, 705 Silver Lake Road, Northwood, Iowa 50459, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church. Lake Mills Otto/Chose American Legion Post #235 will perform military rites. Dorothy’s remains will be cremated after the service and inurnment will take place at a later date.
