Ronald "Captain Ron" DeLong
February 20, 1957 - March 1, 2018

Ronald Duane "Captain Ron" DeLong, son of Robert and Joyce (Pechacek) DeLong, was born on February 20, 1957, in Quamba, Minnesota. He grew up in Mora, Minnesota, and graduated from Albert Lea High School. As a young man, Ron worked at Scotsman Refrigeration. On December 3, 1978, he married Judy Leschefske in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

An honest man with a strong work ethic, Ron, along with his wife, started Captain's Choice Fish and Seafood in 1985, growing the business through the years and still operating it today. In addition, they operated Captain Ron's Bar in Rake for seven years before selling it in 2014. Ron loved spending time with his family, especially at their cabin at Clear Lake in Jackson, Minnesota. He, also, enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico, hunting in Africa, fishing, and cooking. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rake.

Ronald D. DeLong died on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Buffalo Center; his son, Tim DeLong, of Rake; two grandchildren, Jade and Dereck DeLong, also of Rake; his mother, Joyce DeLong, of Wisconsin; three siblings, Kurt (Victoria) DeLong, Connie (Dan) VanStraten, and Debbie DeLong, all of Wisconsin; and two sisters-in-law, Sharron Folven, of Kiester, Minnesota, and Carol Leschefske, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Doug DeLong; his parents-in-law, Chester and Bernice Leschefske; and three brothers-in-law, Maynard and Duane Leschefske and Vernon Folven.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 8th, 2018, at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, at the Oakcrest Funeral Services Winter Chapel, Buffalo Center, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
