Larry Dick Smit
October 25, 1964 - December 21, 2017

Larry D. Smit, 53, died on December 21st, 2017, of a heart attack at his home in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Born in Belmond, Iowa, on October 25th, 1964, to Gary and Sonja Smit, Larry was raised by his father and grandparents. He, always, had a passion for music, especially for the playing guitar, and he enjoyed spending time with family members and loved ones. In addition, he would, often, spend time outdoors riding his bike. Those close to him knew that Larry would, always, offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Despite his love for life and love for others, Larry struggled with addiction his entire life, continuously trying to overcome this horrific disease.

Those left to cherish his memory with unconditional love include his daughter, Aubrey, and her mother, Tammy Smit; his children Amber, Dustin, and Jordan; his stepson, Chris Kelley; Ron Langfald, who was a father figure to him for many years; his biological mother, Sonja; his sister, Lisa Brix; his brother, Shawn Kniesly; his grandson, Elijah; and his special friends, Alan and Beth Patton; as well as many other family members and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Sandy Kelley; his father, Gary; and his sister, Erika Kniesly.

A celebration of life in Larry's honor will be held at a later date.
