Charlene "Char" Rhea Keltner
June 16, 1937 - October 26, 2017

Charlene Rhea (Johnson) Keltner, age 80, died on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

A daughter of Donald and Mazel (Thorson) Johnson, Charlene Rhea Keltner was born on June 16, 1937, in Story City, Iowa. She attended at least four different high schools while growing up and each of those schools have, always, invited her back for their class reunions. In the end, she graduated from Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Iowa.

Char treasured her family. Indeed, she never missed a family event or reunion. She would go anywhere for her grandchildren’s programs even if they lasted only a few minutes. An avid game player, she never cared about the time of day or even the name of the game, Bingo, Bunko, or whatever board game or card game. A member of many different bridge clubs over the years, she enjoyed every minute of her time spent with friends. With an eye for decorating, Char, also, sold Home Interiors for many years. Moreover, she retired from Fleetguard/Cummins industries in 2004. In June of this year, Char moved to Bethany Life Care Center in Story City where she made many new friends.

Char is survived by her daughter, Jodie (Geoffrey) Anderson, of Leland, Iowa; her son, Lance (Angie) Keltner, of Story City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Garrett (Sara) Anderson, of Leland, Iowa, Jennifer Anderson, of Forest City, Iowa, and Cole and Karlie Keltner, both of Story City, Iowa; her brothers Steve (Marcy) Johnson, of Ames, Iowa, and Gary (Marion) Johnson, of Story City, Iowa; his aunts, Iona Lenning, of Ames, Iowa, and Joyce Johnson, of Oden, Minnesota; and a very special cousin, Virginia Egemo; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 30, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastors Melinda McCluskey and Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation for Char will be on Sunday, October 29, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills and will continue for one hour before services at the church on Monday. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM on Monday, October 30, 1017, in the Story City Municipal Cemetery in Story City, Iowa, with Chaplain Sandy Anenson officiating.
