Phyllis Ruth Brackey
February 04, 1936 - September 30, 2017Phyllis R. Brackey, age 81, of Lake Mills, died on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Lake Mills Care Center.
Born on February 4, 1936, in Bristol Township, Worth County, Iowa, to Elmer and Sophie (Hestness) Berg and baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Phyllis (Berg) Brackey attended Lake Mills Community School. She and her husband, Claire, married on January 8, 1954. Subsequently, they were blessed with two children, Carole and Mark, and spent sixty-three wonderful years together.
Phyllis enjoyed watching game shows, the Minnesota Twins, and the Minnesota Vikings. In addition, she loved fishing. Indeed, she and her husband not only liked to fish around Lake Mills, but also they made many a fishing trip to Canada. She, especially, liked stealing his pole and catching his fish. She treasured her family and kindly shared her catches with them as well as with her friends. In addition, she planted tomatoes every year and graciously shared them with family and friends. Moreover, she always felt the need to supply the members of her family with small care packages and would quickly inform them if unsettling weather was coming. Phyllis, also, enjoyed watching her granddaughters grow up and play sports. She, especially, loved softball and would, invariably, sit behind the home plate fence cheering them on. She worked at Winnebago Industries, retiring after twenty-four years.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Claire; her daughter, Carole Summers and Kim Jensen, of Joice, Iowa; her son, Mark, (Barbara) Brackey, of Lake Mills, Iowa; her granddaughters, Stephanie (Jared) Finer, of Lake Mills, and Melissa (Seth) Schulz, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Emersyn Schulz; a sister, Janet Klein, of Mason City, Iowa; a niece, Nancy (Chuck) Maland, of Knoxville, Tennessee; and a great-nephew, J.T. Maland, also of Knoxville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Sophie Berg; a brother, Allen Berg; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Klein.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 1:30 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating.
