From 1939 until 1989, they farmed near Buffalo Center and Thompson, Iowa. After retiring they lived in Fairmont, Minnesota, until Raymond passed away in 1998. Elna, then, moved to Lake Mills, Iowa, where she was living at the time of her death.

Well known for her many talents, she made beautiful wedding cakes, played the accordion, organ, mouth organ, and guitar, and served as a 4-H leader for several years. A talented painter, she sold many of her paintings. An accomplished seamstress, she sewed many an item for the members of her family. In addition, for many years, she enjoyed going to Branson, Missouri, with her family where she made many friends including a special “grandson,” Mike Patrick.

Elna enjoyed animals and could tame any animal including squirrels, badgers, geese, chickens, crows, etc. She loved her family intently. Indeed, as the cornerstone of the family, she could always find something positive to say about everyone and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In return, they all loved her dearly and will, greatly, miss her.
