A kind soul, Darlene JoAnn Weaver
March 19, 1934 - June 18, 2017

Her family at her side on Sunday, June 18, 2017, Darlene JoAnn (Johnson) Weaver, age 83, passed away peacefully with dignity and respect at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The only child to Joe and Esther (Miller) Johnson, Darlene JoAnn was born in Lakota, Iowa, on March 19, 1934. Baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Stevens, Iowa, she grew up on a farm between Lakota and Bancroft. On March 31, 1952, she married Richard Weaver at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center where she remained a member.

Darlene began working at the Buffalo Center Hospital shortly after her wedding. She had many fond memories of her experiences there and cherished the friendships she made there. After the birth of her children, however, she became a stay at home mom.

Darlene treasured her family and took great pride in preparing home cooked meals, her most famous caramel rolls, cinnamon rolls, homemade buns, homemade bread, and other goodies. She loved canning, woodworking, and painting. She, especially, enjoyed family vacations “up north” that included her parents. Moreover, she, eventually, realized one of her goals, going back and earning her GED, a major accomplishment.

A kind soul, Darlene had compassion for everyone. She will be remembered forever by the people that she loved and that, truly, loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Esther; her husband, Richard; three brothers- in- law; and one sister-in-law.

Darlene is survived by her children: Patti Fiderlick, of Ankeny, Randy and Kim Weaver, of Forest City, and Kathy and Ron Arends, also of Forest City; six grandchildren: Joe and Jackie, James and Rachel, Ashley and Ryan, Cody and Lacey, Jen and Brent, and Jeff and Jaden; seven great grandchildren: Carson, Grayson, Asher, Aiden, Kylie, Brayden, and Charlotte Jo; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Weaver and Bonnie Criswell; an aunt, Dorothy Dearing; and by many nieces, nephews, and a special grand-dog Sophie; as well as by her special friends, Connie and Randy, Doris and Harley, Bev and Dale, and two very special young ladies that loved her, Brianna and Dani.

A Wife, a Mother, a Grandma too

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another.
Not just as a wife, not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep.
Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.

A private family burial will be held at a future date in Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center, Iowa. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be given in Darlene Weaver’s memory to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401, and the First Reformed Church, 401 1st St. SW, Buffalo Center, Iowa, 50424.
